Obituary

Bessie Roselle was born on August 23, 1918 in Eastville to the late John and Ruth Wescott. She departed this life on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia following a sudden illness.

Bessie was educated in the Northampton County School District in Virginia. She married the late Otho Roselle on August 25, 1935. This union was blessed with two beautiful girls, Ruth and Mary. She accepted Christ in her youth and joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in Eastville, VA. Upon moving to Philadelphia, PA, she became a member of the Saint Matthews A.M.E. Church where she remained a faithful member.

Bessie was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Crown as a domestic facilitator. She had a close relationship with Mrs. Crown who preceded her in death. She remained a dedicated and faithful worker for 60 years. She retired in 2006, however, the Crown family continued to keep in touch with her through the years.
Bessie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was loved by everyone that came in contact with her. Her gentle, kind disposition caused people to call her "Nanny", "Mother" or "Aunt Bessie" without hesitation. You could always find her cooking, listen to music and enjoying life to its fullest. If you wanted a meal you could always go to her home and would be welcomed with open arms. Family and friends often enjoyed many meals in her home. She always set the table and never used plastic utensils. Everything she did was done with excellence. She took great pride in keeping an immaculate home.

Bessie leaves to cherish fond and unforgettable memories: two daughters, Ruth Wake (Odies) of Petersburg, VA and Mary Roselle of Philadelphia, PA; one granddaughter, Dawn Howard(Reginald) of San Antonio, TX; two great granddaughters: Amber and Erin Howard of San Antonio, TX; five siblings: Hattie Roselle (William) of Philadelphia, PA, Lucille Collins, of Darby, PA, Abraham Wescott (Eunice) of Nassawadox, VA, Delois Smith of Sharon Hill, PA and Earl Wescott (Augustine) of Townsend, VA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bessie also leaves two special and close friends that were part of the family, Alice Moore and Moses Poole of Philadelphia, PA.

"She openeth her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
She looked well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness."
Proverbs 31: 26, 27
