Obituary

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2Timothy 4:6-7:

Brenda Laverne Morris Mitchell, 72, of Moseley, VA, quietly departed her earthly home at her residence in Moseley, VA and went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 15, 2021.  She was born May 8, 1949 to the late Burley W Morris, Jr and Emma Allen Morris in Eastville Station, Virginia.

Brenda graduated from Northampton County High School in 1967. She married Anthony T. Mitchell in July of that same year and traveled with him throughout Europe, while he was in the military.  Once she returned to the Eastern Shore, Brenda worked several jobs on the Shore.  She was a cook at the American House and at Paul's Restaurant in Cheriton, VA.  She then moved and lived in Ellerbe, NC and attended Richmond Technical College in Rockingham North Carolina while working several jobs there including Dixie Burger, Russ Knit Textile Industries, Pink House and ultimately for 4H extension programs. In 1983 Brenda and her family moved back to Virginia and she worked for Mental Retardation Service System now known as Eastern Shore Community Service Board until her health caused her to retire.

At an early age, Brenda joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, Eastville, VA where she remained a member.  She also was a faithful member at Sneeds Grove A.M.E in Ellerbe, NC and once she moved to Richmond, VA to be closer to health care providers, she was a Deaconess at Greater Ebenezer AME, before she most recently became an associate member of Tower Ministries where she was named one of the "Church Mothers".

Brenda was a passionate COOK.  Her special ingredient was LOVE.  Even when she didn't feel good, cooking was her therapy.  She loved people and never knew a stranger.  She fed everybody and was Aunt Brenda to many. Family was her first priority and no matter how physically challenging it was for her with her many ailments, she would try to attend any and every family, church or social event that she could.

She didn't believe when cooking a special dinner for Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, etc., that any one should have to wait until all food was prepared to eat. She would always say, there it is eat it until it is gone. I have cooked more than enough for everyone.  She would always make special goodie bags for the guest who attended and even send bags for ones who could not attend. If you came to her home, she would say, "look in the freezer and get what you want."  She always made everyone feel special and that they were her favorite.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Emma L. Morris; father, Burley W. Morris, Jr; brother, Burleigh W. Morris III and sister, Patricia A. Brickhouse.

She is survived by her beloved spouse of 54 years, Anthony Mitchell; two sons, Michael B. Mitchell (Melissa) and Marvin Mitchell; daughter, Lisa M. Mitchell; granddaughter, Danielle L.
