Dewey Sylvester Collins, Jr, was born to the Late Dewey S Collins, Sr and the Late Maggie Lee Widgeon Collins was born April 9, 1953.
He entered eternal life on Monday, October 25, 2021. He was educated at Northampton County Public Schools. He graduated from Northampton Senior High School in 1971. He continued his education at Norfolk State University (NSU) and studied Business Administration. He graduated from NSU in 1976 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business. After graduating from NSU, he moved to New York to pursue a career in Business. He began his career with a management position at Woolworth that lasted 18 years. Dewey was a businessman. He owned and operated many businesses while continuing to work in various management positions throughout his career. Dewey was always interested in his health and in the health of others. He worked with a company called Youngevity and became a Certified Wholistic Health Coach. He was very proud of this accomplishment. Dewey liked to keep busy so although he was able to retire, he really enjoyed his job at Home Depot working on the Met Team.
Dewey known as "Little Dewey" accepted Christ at a young age. During his youth, he attended Bethel A.M.E. Church, Eastville, Virginia. While attending, he sang on the choir. He, with some of his friends started a Spiritual singing group. They performed at different churches throughout Northampton and Accomack Counties. He later joined Creflo Dollar ministries and became an active member. For years, Dewey also attended regular service with his wife Carrie at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.
While starting his career in New York, Dewey met and married Carrie Johnson. Their union lasted 34 years. Together they raised two daughters, Carrie and Michelle. Wherever his wife Carrie would go, Dewey was always beside her. "He was my best friend, my partner and I love him very much"-Carrie. The two of them were protective of each other, he would often say to her "don't worry about it, leave it in Jehovah's hands"-Dewey.
Dewey always kept a positive attitude and outlook in every situation. He's the glass was never half empty, you just need to fill it up a little more, kind of man. It is immeasurable the amount of lives Dewey has touched along the way. Dewey was a man that could make a new friend everywhere he would go. He has touched the hearts of so many people during his time of living in New York and during his final residency in Pennsylvania since 2011.
Dewey leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Carrie Johnson Collins, with his two daughters, Carrie Ann (Daniel) and Michelle with grandchildren, Cynisha, Vanessa, Amanda, Paris and Troy his only grandson and a great-grandchild on the way. His sister L'Tanya Byrd (Luther), 2 Aunts Ellen Jordan and Marjorie Sheffield, 3 nephews, Marvin, Sean and Lamar and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Through his union with his wife Carrie, he leaves behind his in-laws that had embraced him as their own, Chancelor, Sr and Mattie Johnson, their children, 3 brothers-in-laws, Robert (Eunice), Johnny (Cindy), Joseph (Barbara) and his last surviving sister-in-law Denise Johnson.
