Obituary

Dolores Edwina Elliot departed this life on Friday, June 8, 2012 after several stays at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC and Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. Dolores was the second oldest daughter of eight children of the late Herbert and Annie Ruth Pitts Bland of Cape Charles, VA. She was affectionately called "Mother Dear" and "Mama Lores" by some and "Doe" by her Sister Helen. She was born on November 24, 1930, often times celebrating her birthdays on Thanksgiving, how appropriate for someone who had been a devoted wife and a wonderful mother, giving birth to eleven children.
Dolores was married to the late James William Elliot Sr. and lived in Hampton, Virginia while raising their family. During this time, she attended St. Martin Center. In the mid-fifties, she and her family returned to Cape Charles and continued her catholic faith joining St. Charles, bringing many of her children and grandchildren with her.
During her early life she worked various jobs including a cafeteria worker for the Northampton County School System. In 1980 she began to work at Camp Greenbrier during the summer months. Before retiring in 1998 she also worked for Cape Charles and Kiptopeke Schools.
She leaves behind to mourn and cherish her memories: eleven children Carla Bowers(Otis), Valentine Evans(Phillip), James Elliot Jr., Michone Lane(Thomas), Vincent Elliot, Ronald Elliot, Gerald Elliot(Alma), Deborah Elliot, Gail Jackson(Gerald), Greta Elliot-Meredith(Edward), and Colleen Elliot; her brother Edward Bland; two sisters Helen Coleman and Hazel Bland Thomas; 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other special relatives and friends.
