Obituary

Dolores Edwina Elliott departed this life on Friday, June 8, 2012 after several stays at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC and Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.   Dolores was the second oldest daughter of eight children of the late Herbert anf Annie Ruth Pitts Bland of Cape Charles, Va. She was affectionately called "Mother Dear" and "Mother Lores" by some and "Doe" by her Sister Helen. She was born November 24, 1930, often times celebrating her birthdays on Thanksgiving, how appropriate for someone who had been a devoted wife and a wonderful mother, giving birth to eleven children.

She became to know the Lord with her family in Cape Charles, VA, as a young girl. She joined the Catholic faith while attending St. Joseph's catholic School when she was living in Norfolk, Va with her Aunt Sarah and Uncle Enoch. Dolores attended church at St. Mary's Bascilla during her early years.

Dolores was married to the late James William Elliott, Sr. and lived in Hampton Virginia while raising their family. During this time, she attended St. Martin Center. In the mid-fifties, she and her family returned to Cape Charles and continued her Ctholic faith joined St. Charles, bringing many of her children and grandchildren to her faith until her death.

During her early life she worked various labor positioins, the pivotal part of Dolore's career life began in 1963 when she was employed with the Northampton County School System as a cafeteria worker moving up to cafeteria manager while at Capeville Elementery School working also at Cape Charles and  Kiptopeke before her retirement in 1988. In 1980, she began to work at Camp Green brier during the summer months, enjoying the international experience brought by the camp participants snd Camp of America workers. Over th eyears, Dolores acquired an appreciation for lifetime learning experiences. She attended certification training at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, the regional training on the Eastern Shore and in Tidewater,VA. It amazed us that, not only was she a great mother and grandmother but she found time to support others.
