Our beloved Dorothy Mae Press departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 6, 2017 while a resident at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Nassawadox, Virginia. Dorothy Mae Thomas was born April 15, 1926 to the late Harriet Thomas Holt and Dr. Thomas Reid. She was born and reared in Treherneville and attended Northampton County Public Schools.
In 1944 she married Severn Press; this union was blessed with two sons, Virgil & Reuben.
Dorothy accepted the Lord in her life at an early age and she grew up attending Antioch Baptist Church and later joined Union Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until her health began to decline. She could be found singing on the choir, doing committee work, cooking in the kitchen or cleaning the church.
She worked for years with Northampton County Health Department, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and as a cafeteria worker at the Northampton Middle School.
Mother was the family matriarch – she showed compassion and love to everyone. She was a God fearing and hard working woman. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for family members and friends. Everyone enjoyed her pepper relish, hot rolls and pies.
Dorothy mother was predeceased by her husband, Severn and her son, Virgil. She was also predeceased by her siblings Hollis, Harold "Lum", Laura, Marion, Maggie, Annie, two adopted brothers, George and Jack.
Nana leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son, Reuben Thomas Press, "two daughters", Frances & Elizabeth, one daughter-in-law, Abby Avera-Press; one brother, Charles Reid (Ruby); two sisters-in-law, Barbara Press & Beatrice Press; seven grandchildren: Colette Press-Spady (Gerald), Guy Press (Carolyn), Gary Press (Georgette), Roderick Press (Traci), R.
