Obituary

Douglas Aaron Perry, also know as "Crickett" was born on April 21, 1962 to the late Evangeline Jefferson Perry and William Aaron Perry. Douglas, our beloved father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend departed this life on Tuesday July 9, 2019, with his daughter, Octavia by his side.

Douglas joined First Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated at Cape Charles High School, graduating in 1981. Douglas was very active during his school years, he was on the basketball, baseball, and the football teams. Douglas loved sports and was very competitive, his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys.


After graduating Douglas enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a Mess Specialist, 1st Class on the USS Enterprise, USS Glover, USS Wainwright and the USS Comfort. Douglas was in the Gulf War and did a tour of duty in Operation Desert Storm. After 14 years of service, he medically retired with an Honorable Discharge. He was a member of the Pride of VA, Lodge #18.


In spite of many illnesses, Crickett lived life to the fullest. He was a driver for Hampton Roads Regional Transit. He was employed as a Cook Supervisor for Armark/ Va Beach Correctional Center. While living in Washington, D.C., he was a mail carrier and drove school bus carrying special needs children. Crickett returned to the Hampton Roads area, where he was currently residing.
Douglas looked forward to family gatherings, where you could find him at the card table playing Spades or deuces. Douglas also enjoyed bowling, playing dominoes pitching horseshoes, fishing, dancing, and watching wrestling. He was a grill master at cookouts. As his health declined he loved listening to gospel music and spending time with his granddaughters.


Preceding him in death, 2 brothers: Carlos Mendoza and Leslie Jenkins and nephew James.
Those left to cherish his loving memories are his son, Douglas Aaron Perry, Jr., his devoted daughter Octavia Amesha Perry, Grandaughters: Mytavia and Latavia, grandson, Brian, one brother, Steven Banks, 5 sisters: Alvanette Pulley, Lelia Irene Crossland, Maureen Sterling, Evangeline Staten, and Valerie Keeling, Brothers-in-laws: Frank Sterling, Melvin Harris, Robert Pulley, Sister-in-law, Althea Mendoza, Close Nephews and Neices: Eric, Dulcet, Deneen, Corina, Carlos, Jr., Nanette, Eva, Anna, Franchesca, Michael, and Jessica and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends and Sean and Xavier.
