IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elsie Brown
Allen
February 27, 1931 – July 18, 2025
Elsie's Story
Mrs. Elsie Henrietta Allen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, even great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, gained her angel wings and entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 18, 2025.
She was born on February 27, 1931, in Northampton, VA. Elsie passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family.
Elsie was the fifth of eight children born to the late James Elmer and Mary Priscilla Brown. Elsie was educated in the public schools of Northampton County. She married the love of her life, Alvin Allen Sr., on April 21, 1951. Together they had four children and were happily married for 41 years until the Lord called him from labor to reward. Elsie was employed at Webster Factory, Clam House, and was a Caretaker for the elderly and the kids of the family.
A woman of deep faith, she joined the Bethel A.M.E. Church at an early age, where she served on the Usher Board until the age of 75. She was dedicated and faithful in her diligent service to the Lord, continuously declaring God's goodness, grace, and favor everywhere she went. Every
conversation she held would include her favorite quote: "I'm fine, Thank the Lord I'm still here". At every doctor's or hospital visit, she remained positive and unbothered because she had no doubt in her mind that God had the final say as to when, where, and how He would call her home. She would also say, "I'm not worried about the doctor's report, because when the Lord is ready for me, then I'll be going home". Elsie
had a selfless spirit; she always gave from the heart with no expectations of receiving anything in return.
Elsie was known for her vibrant personality and zest for life. She truly enjoyed family time; it was her greatest joy. Playing cards (spades), dominos, solitaire, and spider on her tablet or computer, talking on the phone all day, and doing crossword puzzles; living life to the fullest until last year at the age of 93, when her health began to decline and she was unable to continue some of her routine tasks. Elsie
brought joy and laughter everywhere she went. She loved to cook for her family and church community; baking was her specialty. Her homemade butter rolls and macaroni and cheese were a must-have every week. We will all miss her cakes.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Allen Sr. whom she shared over 41 years of love and joy; her sisters and brothers: Comford V. Pearson, Lillie Mae Allen (Timothy), James Brown (Mary R.), Jessie Ella Brown, Louis Toy (Charles), Robert Brown (Carrie Mae), and Mary K. Brown. Left to cherish her loving memories; her daughter Diane Johnson (Herbert) of Smyrna, DE, son Alvin C Allen Jr. (Arlene) of Chesapeake, VA, her daughter Paula Drummond (Quinton) of Onancock, VA, and Gladys Allen of Eastville, VA. Grandkids: Shaonnette McDonald (Joseph, deceased) of St. Johns FL, Angel Allen (Kevin) of T's Corner VA, Yulanda Allen of Onancock, VA, Michelle Brunson (Devren) of Bear DE, Tesha James (Maurio) of Triangle VA, Erica Gadson and Herbert Johnson of Philadelphia PA, Ravon Allen of Harlem NY, Ryshekia Allen of Eastville VA, Antionette Urquhart of Chesapeake VA, and Adrian Harris (Rachael) of Virginia Beach VA, 11 great grand kids, 6 great-great grandkids, her sister-in-law, Anne Marie Ross, her longtime friend (sister) Gertrude Morris and a host of nieces and nephews. Just when you think there's no hope, God reaches down and says, "Take My Hand, Let me lead the way"
