IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evangeline Perry
Staten
November 16, 1960 – October 23, 2025
Evangeline Marguerite Perry Staten, affectionately known as Cissy, was born on November 16, 1960, to the late Evangeline Jefferson Perry and William Aaron Perry. On Thursday, October 23, 2025, our beloved sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and cherished friend peacefully departed this life.
Cissy became a member of First Baptist Church at an early age, embracing her faith as a guiding light throughout her life. She graduated from Cape Charles High School in 1979, where her passion for sports and competitive spirit shined brightly. Among her favorite teams, she proudly supported the Washington Redskins—now known as the Commanders.
Following high school, Cissy attended Norfolk State University before answering the call to serve her country in the United States Navy. She completed 20 years of honorable service, a testament to her dedication, resilience, and patriotism.
Cissy found joy in life's simple pleasures—soulful music, lively conversation, and sharing a glass of wine with those she loved. Her laughter was a gift, bright and familiar, it brought warmth to every gathering and joy to every heart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter "Snow" Staten; her sister, Alvanette; and her brothers, Walton, Carlos and Douglas "Crickett" and nephew James.
Cissy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her devoted sisters; Lelia Irene, Maureen, and Valerie; her brother, Steven; sister-in-law Althea and her brothers-in-law, Frank, Melvin and Dwayne. She was deeply loved by her close nieces and nephews; Eric, Dulcet, Deneen (Boris), Corina (Fred), Carlos Jr., Nanette, Eva (Ralph), Anna (William), Franchesca, Michael, Jessica, Douglas and Octavia. Her memory will also live on through a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and special friends, Tyesha Davis, Jovoski Williams, Vikki Floyd and Jackie Conquest. Special thanks to Michael Beckett.
