Obituary
Florence, the daughter of the late Milton Andrews, Sr., Clara Andrews and Bruce Brown, quietly slipped peacefully away into the arms of God on Saturday afternoon, September 29, 2007 in Chesapeake, Virginia. If there ever was a woman who knew God it was Florence.
After the sudden death of her beloved husband, John Henry Smaw, Sr. in 1970, she vowed that she would continue to raise her five children in the church and make sure that all of them would further their education.
Her love for God kept her busy especially HER Choir No. 2. She would be in the choir stand EVERY 1st Sunday whether she went to rehearsal or not. She was also a member of the Deaconess Board, Usher Board, Missionary Circle and the Widows Club. She was honored twice as "Mother of the Year".
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was affectionately known as "Mama Flo" to those whom she came in contact.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons and three daughters-in-law, John H. Smaw, Jr. (Wilhelmenia), Isaac A. Smaw (Grace), Joseph A Smaw (Carolyn); two daughters and one son-in-law, Doretha F. Smaw and Evon Smaw Sheppard (Robert); eight grandchildren, Rendella M. Smaw, Johnna M. Smaw, Isaac A. Smaw Jr. (Sharon), Michael T. Smaw, JoAnjanetta Smaw, Joseph A. Smaw, Jr., Jonathan Smaw, Dorethia A. Wright-Daughtry (Mario); 17 great grandchildren: Christopher, Kiara, Monét, Ricky, Jr., Jaimiia, Jaron, Aaliyah, Jarrel, Antonio, Iseriah, Isanekqua, Katia, Courtney, Demontray, Jamie, Elijauan, and Nyiesha; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Corine A. Wynder (Edward), Bessie Taylor (Roland), Dora Thomas, Nivella Collins; five brothers and four sisters-in-law: William Andrews (Eloise), Burley Andrews (Georgia), Eugene O. Andrews (Gladys), Edward Brown, James Johnson and Mrs. Otelia Andrews. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Florence was predeceased by sixteen siblings:
Andrews – Isaac, Henry, Theodore, Louise, Richard, Milton, Jr. George and Moses
Brown – Amos, Harry, Dave, Cleveland, Howard, Ruth, Helen, and Frank
