Obituary

George Thomas Allen was born on October 29, 1917 in Eastville, Virginia to the late John and Carrie Carter Allen. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Jr. Jesse, Edward, and Theolia and five sisters, Leah Satchell, Annie Johnson, Mary Bibbins, Carrie Glass, and Catherine Trower.

George was educated in the public schools of Northampton County. He attended Hampton Institute (presently Hampton University) where he received a Bachelor Science Degree in 1947. In 1951 and 1952, he pursued graduate studies at Hampton Institute as well as the University of Pennsylvania in 1953 thru 1956.
In June, 1983, he retired from the Northampton County School System after 36 years of services. During his tenure, he served as a seventh grade teacher for 23 years and a Home-School Coordinator for 13 years. He accepted Christ in his early teens and served as a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Eastville until his health failed. He was a dedicated trustee and loved his church. He always greeted everyone on Sunday mornings and during other events held at the church.

In 1946, George was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Catoria Fitchett. To this union three children were born. George was very active in the community. His professional and community affiliates include the following: Scout Master, Armed Services, Northampton County School Board, Northampton County Social Services, Northampton County Parks and Recreation, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Mount Zion Royal Lodge #8, American Legion Post 400, National Education Association, Cosmos Club, Northampton Action Group, and others.

On Saturday, March 22, 2008, George went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Jacqueline of Eastville, VA, Sharon of Portsmouth, VA, one son, George (Shirley) of Eastville, VA; one grandson, Jerome (Kinesha) of Hampton, VA; one granddaughter, Jovia (Brandon King) of Nashville, TN, one step grandson, John (Monique), two step granddaughters, Tyneshia and Irasheka; four great grandchildren, Jerome, Jr., Jules, Jisele and Jaylen; two step great grandchildren, Precious and Dashon; one brother Joseph of Eastville, VA, one sister, Gladys Brown of Philadelphia, PA, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
