The Beginning
Johnnie Henderson, husband of the late Sylvia Robinson Henderson, was born on June 4, 1927 to the late Willie and Cordelia Scott Henderson.
The Journey
Johnnie Boy, as he was affectionately called, was born, reared and educated in Northampton County, VA. Johnnie Boy married Sylvia Robinson on February 28, 1859 and to this union, seven children were born; two preceded him in death.
Johnnie Boy was baptized at Capeville Baptist as a young child. He worked various jobs such as a farmer but mostly he was considered a fisherman, and he enjoyed working the fishnets. He made sure that his family was being taken care of.
He was the type of person who didn't hold his tongue. He told you exactly how he felt and then some. He was an impatient man so whenever he went to a doctor's appointment and they took a long time he would say "This will be my only 3 times coming here; my first time, my only time and my last time". He had so many sayings that we will remember him by, such as, "I ain't no boy, my mama named me Johnnie", in response to someone calling him Johnnie Boy, "You see a boy, slap a boy", "Long as I owe you, I'll never go broke", and "Right here, this ain't your home - you have another home you have to go to".
The End
In the early hours of July 16, 2018 Johnnie Boy went to join his loving wife, baby son, daughter, parents and his siblings to rest in his eternal home in glory. He leaves to cherish beautiful memories, his daughter, Shirlean Henderson Stratton (Irving) of Cape Charles, VA; four sons, Johnnie Henderson, Jr , Frederick, MD, Bobby Henderson, Adam Henderson, both of Norfolk, VA and William Henderson (Tikeyisha), Parksley, VA; Daughter-in-law Carolyn Henderson, Hinesville, GA; 15 Grandchildren; one sister, Elma Watson, Phila., PA and one sister-in-law Dorethia Robinson, Hampton, VA; special cousins Elizabeth Ames and Cecil Jones, Jr. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends,
