IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louis
Bell
April 15, 1954 – February 21, 2022
Louis Peter Bell , named after his maternal grandfather, Louise Roselle and paternal grandfather, Peter Bell, son of the late Curtis Winfield Bell and Dorothy Roselle Bell, made his heavenly transition on Monday, February 21, 2022. Louis affectionately known by family and friends as " Duke " was born April 15, 1954 in Eastville, Virginia.
Louis attended the public schools of Northampton and graduated from Northampton High School in 1972. A sports enthusiast he loved the game of basketball and played guard on his high school basketball team.
Louis joined Bethel A.M.E. Church at the age of 13. He sang on the Youth Choir, attended Sunday School and was active in Vacation Bible School. As an adult he served as an Usher until his health began to decline.
Louis began working as a teenager at local graders and assisted his cousin and carpenter Frank Smith by hammering nails, carrying materials, and enjoying the stories Cousin Frank would tell. He also spent summers riding with his father and older brother, Wayne, making hauls on his father's truck. As an adult he worked at C D Clam House and retired from Bayshore Concrete as a steel tier.
Duke began his love of sports while playing baseball and football on his cousins, Charlie and Flossie Purnell's lot. He, his brother, neighborhood friends, and cousins spent carefree hours while learning sportsmanship, friendship, and the rules of the games. He enjoyed being in the company of family and friends and engaging in family-oriented activities. He attended school sports events and programs. When health permitted, he was at college, high school and middle school graduations of children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Duke loved playing cards and watching sports with family and friends. He mastered the game of pool as a young teen and continued until he could no longer hold a pool stick. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and rooted for Yankees baseball team. He believed Michael Jordan was truly the "greatest of all times: and enjoyed watching him play basketball. He loved family gatherings especially traditional "turkey and ham dinners" which were his favorite. He particularly enjoyed cookouts and his son "Mont's" fried fish. He cherished spending time with his youngest child, Derrick after school and on weekends.
