Lula Brooks Spratley, daughter of the late Edward and Mozella Brooks, was born on February 24, 1922 in Eastville, Virginia. Lula won the ultimately victory as she passed from this life to eternal rest on February 19, 2010 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Nassawadox, Virginia.
Lula, affectionately known to many as "Aunt Lula" was educated in the public schools of Northampton County. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was a faithful member of the New Allen Memorial AME Church of Franktown, VA. She truly loved her entire New Allen family.
With love and commitment she raised her niece, Lula Brooks Wynder and nephew, Friday Lynwood Brooks as her own children. She was predeceased by her husband, Otha J. Spratley, four sisters, Mollie Smith, Ella Brooks, Lillie Mae Brooks, and Edna Hyslop and two brothers, John Henry Brooks and Alfred Edward Brooks.
Lula leaves cherished memories with one daughter/niece, Lula Brooks Wynder (Leven)of Cherrystone, Virginia; three great nephews: Clay Edward Brooks and wife Katrina of Jacksonville, FL, Friday Lynwood Brooks of Raleigh, NC and George Odell Brooks of Eastville, VA; three special friends: Gertrude Morris, Ella Boggs and Ellen Ann Collins; many cousins and devoted friends.
