Lynette Marie Joynes, also affectionately known as Lyn to many, entered into her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Although it was quite unexpected God had another plan for her.
Lynette Marie Joynes was a midwife baby, born in Cape Charles, Virginia on January 7,1956 to the late Dorine Pearl Scott Joynes and Cecil Bernard Joynes, Sr. She was the oldest sister in a household of 6 siblings. Five brothers: Cecil Bernard Joynes, Jr, Leon Malik Joynes (proceeded in death), James Howard Joynes, Thomas Jerome Joynes (proceeded in death), James Howard Joynes, Thomas Jerome Joynes (proceeded in death), Peter Lauren Joynes and 1 sister Crystal Yvette Murray. As the oldest, Lyn was the overprotective sibling that went above and beyond for her brothers and sister.
As a Child, Lynette lived in Cape Charles, Virginia. Kansas City Missouri and Washington, DC. Lyn attended St. Martin Catholic School, Capeville Elementary, Phyllis Wheatly Elementary, Holy Name Catholic School, Annunciation Catholic School, MacFarland Jr High and Theodore Roosevelt High School. After graduating from High School, she continued her education in Bremerton Washington State and received her degree at Olympic College. Lynette Joynes went on to work for the Federal Government in Silver Spring, MD for over 30 years at Department Commerce NOAA. Personal Property Management and later Retired.
Lynette met the love of her life, Luis Alberto Gyles in 1976. In that friendship they conceived their only daughter Xabia Marie Joynes, born August 1, 1986. Among the things Lynette treasured most was her 6 grandchildren: Anthony Lawrence Joynes, Renard Pierre Joynes, Rio Alberto Joynes, Benjamin Michael Johnson, Xavier Makai Johnson and Benae Mackenzie Johnson. During her retirement years she loved taking care of and spoiling her grandkids.
Lyn loved her family and friends. She was known to be generous by fault. People were her purpose in life. She very much enjoyed gatherings and was known as the "Life of the Party". Lynette's interest/hobbies were spiritually and culturally rooted and intertwined. Lynette valued time with family, friends, church, fellowship and nature. She honored her cultural heritage through creative writing and expression; traditions; knowledge; dredd, nature and love. Lyn loved poetry-writing it, performing her own poetry as well as enjoying the work of other poets (including her favorite Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka and Nikki Giovani). Lyn wrote her rendition of a Shakespearean play during her adolescence and her classmates performed he play at the Shakespeare's library in Washington, DC. Lyn had authored a compilation of poetical works. Her penned name was "Bitter Honey". Lyn contributed to social and cultural events and celebrations; and traditions steeped in heritage. She was very absorbed by African dance and had a special love for it. Visiting art galleries, museums, outdoor theatre and parks were among her favorite pastimes.
Lynette attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church where she sang soprano in the church choir. Years later she became a member and was baptized at Imani Temple on Capitol Hill in DC. When Imani Temple moved to Suitland, Maryland, Lynette had the children perform her production of Kwanzaa. She was a Lector and enjoyed proclaiming the 1st and 2nd Reading at Mass.
Although she left us all alone, she leaves to cherish her beloved daughter Xabia M. Joynes, six grandchildren; Anthony Lawrence Joynes, Renard Pierre Joynes, Rio Alberto Joynes, Benjamin Michael Johnson, Jr., Xavier Makai Johnson and Benae Mackenzie Johnson; six siblings, Cecil Bernard Joynes, Jr. (Marlene) of Townsend, VA), Crystal Yvette Murray (Alvin) of (Jacksonville, Florida), James Howard Joynes of (Washington, DC), Leon Malik Joynes (proceeded in death), Thomas Jerome Joynes (proceeded in death), Peter Lauren Joynes (Washington, DC). "Special Nieces and Nephews" Jessica Marie Nia Joynes, Jajuan Natasha Joynes (proceed in death), Chakharia Williams, Juwan Campbell, Clayvon Anderson, Charnika Lacole Joynes (proceeded in death), Monique Ferguson, Monique Murray, Dale Murray (proceeded in death) and Honorary friend Luis Alverto Gyles and a vast array of Family and Friends.
