God saw her getting weary so he did what He thought best. He came and stood beside her and whispered, "Come and take your rest". Mable accepted His call with a smile on her face.
Today we celebrate the life of one so dear.
Mable Louise Thomas, the youngest daughter of the late William and Beulah Thomas, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 5, 2010, at the Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. We thank God for Mable's 69 years.
All who knew Mable know that she was a prolific reader. She enjoyed all kinds of books, especially romance novels. She enjoyed her years of working as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Shore Memorial Hospital and Heritage Hall Nursing Home where she retired in 1996.
Mable was a dedicated member of the African Baptist Church. She served for many years with the Nurses' Aide Ministry, Senior Ushers and as a Sunday school teacher for the Junior Class. When her health limited her, she claimed her rightful seat on the east side of the church and would slowly rise to her feet when she felt the spirit and heard Choir II sing her favorite song, "I'll Make it Somehow".
Mable's greatest joy in life was being proud of her devoted daughter, Dee Dee, her three granddaughters whom she helped raise and her three great-granddaughters. She loved her family and was a cheerleader at every family gathering. She was faithful, supportive and always complimentary to whatever her nieces and nephews participated in. Mable truly relished the bond she had with her big sister Shirley who she daily played nurse to. She enjoyed her friends especially Florence "Bunk" Spady, whom she called "my soul sister" and Gloria Tate who made her laugh and took tender loving care of her in her final hours. In later years, she developed a great friendship with Shirley Young, who became her "Siamese twin". Mable was an inspiration to her friends, whether it was doing their taxes, taking care of their finances, reading and understanding difficult papers or transporting them around town and to church.
Mable was predeceased by two brothers, William George Thomas and Madison "Mack" Thomas, three sisters, Irene Hyslop, Virginia "Dollie" Wynder, and Teresa "Cutie"Simon.
We will miss her beautiful smile, laughter and comical clichés. Her memory forever lives on in her loving daughter, Angela "Dee Dee" Thomas Colvin and husband, Earnest; three granddaughters: Angelique Amos and husband, Corey, Maxine McMillan and friend, Demond and Monique Colvin; three great-granddaughters: Amaya, Destiny and Desiree; three sisters: Shirley Christian and husband, Albert, Pauline Banks and Alice Watson; three brothers: Frizzel Thomas, Lorenzo Thomas and wife, Betty, James Thomas and wife, Hattie; one sister-in-law, Shirley Thomas, a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins; three foster children, Maieve, April, and Joe; many friends, her old Bayview Community, the Heritage Acres Community and her African Baptist Church family. Lovingly submitted, the Family
