Obituary

Born in Eastville, Virginia, Mrs. Maggie Lee Widgeon Collins , a resident of Stumptown, Virginia passed away Monday,  at approximately 12:38 p.m., after 95 courageous years, with her two children and grandson by her bedside.

Our Mom was born to the Late Lloyd C. Widgeon and the late Edna Jacob Widgeon  November 2, 1923 and went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2019.  At a very young age, she joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, Eastville, VA and was a faithful Sunday School member.  As an adult, she served in several ministries, Stewardess, Missionary and continued as a dedicated Sunday School student.  She was an active member and supporter of her church.

She graduated from Northampton County Public Schools.  Shortly after receiving her diploma, she obtained employment with Bryn Mawr College for several years before returning to the Eastern Shore of Virginia.  She worked at Webster's Factory and Northampton County Public Schools where she retired after 14 years.

Mom met and married the love of her life in 1952, Dewey Sylvester Collins.  From this union, two children were born, Dewey and L'Tanya.

She loved to cook and bake.  She was famous for her hot buttered rolls and many other dishes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Bennie and Percell Widgeon, all of Eastville, Virginia.

God has plucked a beautiful jewel to add to His garden.  She leaves cherished and loving memories with her two children, Dewey Colling (Carrie) of Bensalem, PA and L'Tanya Byrd (Luther), Stumptown, VA.  Her older-devoted sister, Ellen Jordan who is 100 years old and her younger sister, Marjorie Sheffield, 89 years old, Bronx, NY; three grandsons:  Lamar, Sean and Marvin Byrd; two granddaughters; Carrie Ann Johnson (Danny Farrell) and Michelle Brown (Lance); seven great granddaughters: Cynthia Johnson, Vanessa Farrell, Amanda Ferrell, Paris Phillips, Kashea Wright, Genieve Byrd and Alexis Byrd; two great grandsons: Troy Phillips and Marvin Byrd, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and her Bethel A.M.E. Church Family

Funeral Services was Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Eastville, Virginia with Rev. Horace Cross, Officiating and Rev. Percell Widgeon, Eugologist.

The interment was in the Bethel A.M.E. Church Cemetery.
