Mary Elizabeth Mapp peacefully slipped into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Sentara Bayside Hospital in Virginia Beach with her daughter at her side.
Mary, "Cushie" as she was known by everybody, was born in Northampton County on September 5, 1912 to the late John And Alice Mapp. She was educated in the Northampton County Public School System. Mary was employed most of her life as a domestic worker at a hotel in Cape Charles and homes in Germantown, PA ans at Cape Charles Public School. Mary realized a need to have a spiritual relationship with God and at an early age became a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Eastville, VA.
"Momma" as her children would affectionately call her, was a loving mother. She was a good example of what a "momma" should be. She had a very caring heart with a giving spirit. She never had anything bad to say about anyone and always tried to reach out to help others even as her bed became her creature comfort. She would often lie in bed reading the bible, praying and thanking God for his goodness and mercy.
She leaves loving and lasting memories for her three children: Alice Mapp her caregiver with whom she lived in Virginia Beach, VA; Pauline Foreman (Eugene) of Norfolk, VA; and Eugene "Pete" Jackson of Philadelphia, PA; two nieces: Ann Blackstock of Jacksonville, NC and Alice Outlaw of Machipongo, VA; four grandchildren, a host of cousins and many loving friends; special cousin, Jackie Holder and her special friend, Jean Austin; two very special people in her life were Constance "Chink" Whitney of Philadelphia, PA and Pauline "Bunnie" Perry of Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by her sister, Beatrice Mitchell.
Lovingly submitted by the Family
