IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Myrtle Gertrude
Beckett
July 17, 1935 – November 14, 2020
Our mother, Myrtle Gertrude Beckett, 85, was born July 17, 1935 in Cape Charles, VA to the late John A. Beckett and Mary Beckett. She gained her wings and took her journey home on Saturday, November 14, 2020 while a resident of the Anchorage Health Center in Salisbury, MD.
Mom attended Northampton County Public School. She worked at Webster's Factory, which was later called, Kane and Miller, Holiday Inn, was a cook and a caregiver.
January 7, 2010 our mom was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church Capeville household of faith. She was a dedicated and faithful member until her health prevented her from attending. Her favorite sayings were, "Hello" and "No fool no fun". She would enter Sunday morning services with a praise in her step as she danced down the aisle. She was loved by all generations and was awarded First Baptist, "Mother of the Year" in 2014.
Myrtle loved to cook for family and friends. Her rolls and pies were her specialty and people were willing to pay for them. She never met a stranger that she did not befriend. Her front porch became her sanctuary. It was a place for laughter, joking, and having a cup of coffee. You always left feeling better than when you arrived.
Summertime was her favorite time of the year. She would host cookouts at her home, which turned into a Cape Charles Community Day, because the community would stop by. She loved dancing especially with her dear friend, Reese, playing cards, and being the overall entertainer.
Mom had a love for fashion and took great pride in her attire, nails, and hair. She enjoyed her favorite soap opera, General Hospital, watching Walker Texas Ranger, and cheering for her favorite basketball player, Michael Jordan. When Mom was not at home, you would find her spending time with her best buddy, Len at Mitchell's Shop.
In addition to her parents, Mom was also predeceased by her loving son, Keith Beckett, two sisters, Virginia Evans and Mary Smaw and two brothers, John Beckett, Jr. and Walter Beckett. She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to her six children: Michael (Gloria) of Cape Charles, VA, Larry of Lexington, KY, Terry (Ellen) of Windsor, VA, Tina of Cape Charles, VA, Kim of Woodbridge, VA and Kevin (Tracy) of Claymont, DE; a sister, Viola Montgomery of Morganza, LA; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special and dear friends: Lenora Mitchell, Reid "Reese" Stanley, Francethia "Candy" Jones, TaNae Jones and her First Baptist Church Capeville Family.
