IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Obelia Shirleen
Sisco Smith
March 14, 1937 – December 26, 2018
Mrs. Obelia Shirleen Sisco Smith Wright entered this life on March 14, 1937 to the late Mrs. Sadie Mae Moore and the late Mr. Sandford Sisco. She was one of nine children. Three of her siblings, Beryl Savage, Mary Ellen Sisco, and Tucker Smith preceded her in death. On February 14, 1976, Obelia united in Holy Matrimony with Mr. John Wright. "Pop Pop" as her children and grandchildren would affectionately call him, preceded her in death in 2006. At the age of 81, she quietly departed this life on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at her home in Darby, Virginia
As a young lady, Obelia joined the African Baptist Church in Cheriton, Virginia. She was educated in the Public Schools of Northampton County, Virginia. After high school, she attended the Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing to receive training for licensed practical nursing (LPN), and she was employed all of her working years as a nurse.
During young adulthood, God blessed her with three beautiful children, whom she adored; Shirneda, Jeffery, and Ernest, Jr. She loved her children dearly and she made great strides in life to make sure her children were well taken care of, working several different nursing shirts; and taking time to make her children's clothing.
Obelia took great pride in her nursing profession, and she enjoyed working over the years at various medical facilities including, Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and the Shore Dialysis Center, from which she retired. She also had a special affinity for business and a profound admiration for hats. In 1990, she combined her two interests into a business which came to be known as Ophelia's Hat and Hair Shop.
Mrs. Wright leaves to cherish her memories; three loving children, Rev. Shirneda Simpkins (Henry), Rev. Jeffrey Smith, Sr. (Claudine), and Mr. Ernest Smith, Jr. (Antoinette); three step-children, Ronald Wright, Craig Wright, and Vita Wright; five grandchildren, Shirnesha Simpkins Church (Avery), Jeffery Smith, Jr, Justin Smith, Bria Smith and Jada Smith; one great-granddaughter, Sasha Church; five siblings, Richard Moore, Carrie Dickerson (John), Susie Simpkins, Robert Moore, and Margaret Moore; one brother-in-law, Larry Wright, and three sisters-in-law, Mary Smith, Amanda Lotson, and Regina Kellam; an adopted daughter, Greta Sample; one goddaughter, Sophelia Yandell; sister cousins, Elizabeth Ames, Edna Mae Harper, and Odears Walton; adopted sisters, Dorothy Giddens and Margaret Sample; a special nephew, Rev. Keith Savage (Valerie); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
