Obituary

Thomas "Guru"  Lee Stratton was born October 15, 1945 to the late James F. Stratton and Joanner G. Stratton of Cape Charles, Virginia.

The "Guru" was born in Cape Charles, Virginia.  He was educated in Northampton County School system.  He was second born of seven Children.
On November 23, 1968, he married his beautiful wife, Ernestine "Tina" Stratton and unto this holy union, Tawanna was born.

The "Guru" served in the United States Army and was later honorably discharged.  The "Guru" was a hard worker.  He worked several jobs but gained status while working as the Produce Manager at Fresh Pride.  He later became employed with the Town of Cape Charles Water Treatment Plant where he later became plant manager until his retirement years later.

The "Guru" believed it was important to be involved with the community and meaningful organizations.  He served on the Town Council in Cape Charles for many years and was a major factor in many historic events that helped shape the Town of Cape Charles like the integration of the Cape Charles Golf Course.  He also served as Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge.

Tom was baptized at an early age.  He remained a very spiritual man, always sharing his love for the Lord and spreading peace and blessings to everyone he came in contact with.  If ever you needed a word of encouragement, Tom "Guru" was the man to talk to.  He spent a lot of time studying God's word and wanted to be the one who reminds you that God is love land every man has a purpose, with God, all things are possible and your destiny involves GREATNESS!!

The "Guru" was known and recognized for throwing up the fist and addressing you as "My Brother" or "My Sister", his signature statement that he used for people he loved.  There was never a stranger that he met.  He spoke to everyone as if he knew them for years, unintentionally making himself someone you would never forget.  He had his own style which made him stand out in a crowd.

The "Guru" was loved by many and respected by all.  He was one of the coolest guys you could ever meet.  He enjoyed listening to his spiritual tapes, music, watching sports, playing dominoes and a good conversation.  He loved his family and was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

On February 26, 2018, the Lord called his angel home.  Preceding his death was his loving wife of 45 years, Ernestine "Tina" Stratton.  He leaves to cherish fond memories for his only child, Tawanna, two grandchildren, Toyika and William.  One great-grandchild, Tristan, whom he had the opportunity to share his last moments with.  He loved them all dearly.  Three sisters, Martha (Maurice), Margaret (David), and Yetta (Dwayne), three brothers, James, Irving (Shirlean), and Wayne.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
