Timothy Thomas Stratton, Jr. "Tim", of 21433 South Bayside Road,Cheriton, VA eased into the loving arms of his Savior on Tuesday,May 27, 2009 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA at the age of 69. He was the eldest son of Lillian Smaw Stratton and Timothy Thomas Stratton, Sr. of Cheriton, VA. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
He was educated in the Northampton County Public School system and matriculated to the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1961. He subsequently entered the United States Army in 1963 and served his country faithfully until he was honorably discharged from service in 1969. He was a gifted educator and retired from the Kiptopeke Elementary School in 2004 after 43 years of dedicated service. Tim was a talented musician, inspirational instructor and avid lover of music. Although he served as the Director of Music for Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Cheapside, VA for many years until his recent illness, he also shared his musical talents with other churches throughout the Eastern Shore, Accomac and Northampton County. He was also a member of
American Legion Post 400.
He surrendered his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of the African Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 41
years, Dorothy J. Stratton, one son, Timothy Thomas Stratton, III and his wife Monica of Cheriton, VA, one daughter, Melody Stratton
Thomas and her husband Maurice of Machipongo, VA, one sister, Marva L. Stratton of Cheriton, VA, one brother, Glenn E. Stratton and
his wife Cynthia of Charlottesville, VA, four grandchildren, Anthonia and Derrick Stratton of Cheriton, VA, Marissa and Maurice Thomas,
Jr. of Machipongo, VA, dedicated and devoted cousin, Clarence
Smaw, an uncle, James Stratton, three brothers–in-laws, five other
sister-in-laws, one uncle–in-law and two aunts-in-laws, as well as a host of other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
