Obituary

Mrs. Virginia Lucretia Allen Tatum,was born November 18, 1935 to the late Sethro E. Allen and Virginia Lee Press Allen in Cheriton, Virginia. She departed this life early Friday morning, March 10, 2017 at the Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, Onancock, Virginia.

Lucretia attended the public schools in Northampton County.

For many years she was a domestic worker: but she found true enjoyment when she became a daycare provider. She was known by the many children she kept as "Momma Tatum"

Lucretia found the Lord early in life and joined African Baptist Church. Before her failing health, she was a Sunday School Teacher, sang on Choir #1, the Chancellor Choir and as a Deaconess. She often talked about how she missed singing in the choir.

Some of her favorite hobbies were sewing, completing word search puzzles, listening to Gospel Music and watching westerns. Unknown to many, her favorite television show was "The Walking Dead". She loved to travel and her favorite trip was to Hawaii where she met Rapheala
Alexander who became a lifelong friend.

She was preceded by her parents; Virginia and Sethrow, and her brothers Joe and Pete. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories seven childred; Tyrone, Bayview, Arlene (Edward), Cheriton, Lucinda, Eastville, Candy, Machipongo, Melissa (Raymond), Richmond, Deneen, Arizona and Ryan (Florence), Woodbridge, VA.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Larry Allen (Andrea), Goose Creek,S.C.
one aunt, Ora Lee Watson, Cheriton, one brother-in-law Genova (Gloristina) Hampton, two nieces Jerica Allen, N.Y. and Janae Tatum, Hampton,a special friend Teresa Johnson, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A visitation was held Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at African Baptist Church, Cheriton,Virginia.

Funeral Service was 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017 at African Baptist Church, Cheriton, Virginia with Rev. Robert Garris, Officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.
