IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilson Gilbert
Williams
July 11, 1927 – August 3, 2023
Our Beloved Father, Wilson Gilbert Harvey Williams passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2023, at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lizzella and Harvey Williams, his sisters, Ludy Oglesby, Tweeter Gray and his three children, Elizabeth, Isaac and Derrick (Troy).
Wilson is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Simmie, his two daughters, Juno and Joyce, his three sons, Gilbert, Lance, and Wilson (Mark), 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He lived a full and rich life as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, son and friend. He served his country as a tank driver in the 758th tank battalion during World War II, and honorary "Buffalo Soldier". After being injured during a training exercise, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Simmie on June 8, 1951. They went on to have eight children together.
Wilson was known for his love of his family and friends, cars, gardening, coin collecting and music. He was a gifted dancer who was always the first one on the dance floor. He also had a knack for making friends wherever he went. His home was always open to visitors and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Wilson was a kind and generous soul who always put others before himself. He was a true people person who loved to connect with others and learn about their lives. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
We will never forget Wilson's warm smile, his infectious laugh and his endless love for his family and friends. He was a truly special man and we are grateful to have had him in our lives.
