Yvonne Lee Burgess was born on June 21, 1957 in Nassawadox, Virginia to Eddie and Susie Cora Stewart.
Yvonne was educated in Northampton County Public School System. She was an employee of the American House, Perdue, Kane & Miller, Northampton Seafood, and Cobbs-Ventress.
Yvonne accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Bishop Estella Smith. She was a member of the Busy Bees and combined choir. She also help supply the children of the church with back to school supplies.
Yvonne was known by many of her relatives and friends as "Punky". In her spare time, she loved listening and attending quartet gospel concerts, as well as watching television. Some of her favorite television shows was Golden Girls, Westerns, Haves and Have Not , just to name a few. Some of her favorite gospel groups included Thomas Ellison, Paul Porter, and Mighty Cloud of Joy. She also loved to decorate, being around her family, of course talking trash and riding. Her favorite saying was, "Ride me until I sweat".
Yvonne was married to Samuel Burgess, Sr. and out of their holy union, they were blessed with two beautiful children.
On June 20, 2018, the Lord called his angel home. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Alberta Collins; two siblings, Edward Lee Stewart and Cora Lee Owens.
Yvonne leaves to cherish fond memories; son Samuel Burgess, Jr.; daughter, Tamika Parker (Thomas) of Boston, VA. Her mother, Susie Cora Stewart of Fairview, VA; Seven grandchildren; Malik Burgess, Kevin Clark, Precious West, Kayla Burgess, Crca Ruffin, Cameron Burgess, and Khalil Dix. Two great grandchildren; Kysan Harris and LaBella Rose Ruffin. Three sisters; Joyce Fenderson (Earnest), Barbara Brown (James), and Judith Tisdale. One aunt; Margaret Trower. Two sister-inlaws; Doris Booker and Thelmas Burgess. One special niece whom she called her second daughter; Erica Beckett. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
